He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 309

He remained silent for a moment. Without turning around, he slowly shook his head.

"No. I'm not ready to face them yet."

Stellan opened his mouth to say something else, but Bill had already pushed open the exit doors and stepped out into the heavy darkness of the night.

His tall, solitary silhouette was quickly swallowed by the shadows, as if he had never been there at all, leaving behind only the chill in the air and the glowing red ember in the crystal ashtray.

The next day.

When Scarlett fully woke up, she realized she was in a hospital bed.

Talia was lying in the bed next to hers, and in the space between them, Gordon was dozing in a chair, his head propped on his hand.

Rubbing her aching temples, she wondered how the two of them ended up passing out on a sofa and waking up in a hospital.

She vaguely remembered having late-night takeout with Talia, downing a glass of wine, and then blacking out.

She had zero recollection of anything after that.

What confused her most was that, since she was breastfeeding and worried about her baby, she had been very careful with her alcohol intake. How on earth did one glass land her in the ER?

Frowning in confusion, she noticed Talia blinking awake as well.

Talia immediately let out a loud gasp.

"Holy crap, Scarlett, why are we in a hospital?"

"Did we go crazy last night? I know I drank a lot, but... wow, I think I had a wet dream. I dreamt I was aggressively making out with this incredibly hot guy in a car. He was absolutely ripped, abs everywhere..."

Still totally immersed in the fantasy, she excitedly shared the details.

Startled by the shouting, Gordon jolted awake and nearly tumbled out of his chair.

He quickly righted himself and shot Talia a deadpan look.

"That wasn't a dream. That actually happened."
