He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 314

He was her flesh and blood, her pride and joy, her entire world. Between his fever, pneumonia, and loss of appetite, she had been a nervous wreck. Though she rarely cooked, she had spent the last few days slaving away in the kitchen, desperately trying to whip up something that would help him regain his strength.

And it was all Scarlett's fault. Corinne’s hatred for her daughter-in-law boiled over so fiercely that while chopping meat earlier, she had hacked at the cutting board with such violence that the Flynn Estate staff feared she was committing a murder.

"Yardley, sweetheart, I'm here. Look what I made for you—your favorite beef bone and yam stew. I had the freshest cuts flown in straight from the ranches. And I brought salmon sashimi, garlic king crab, and pan-seared steak..."

Yardley had always been a carnivore, and Corinne had gone out of her way to prepare a feast. But the sight of the food did nothing for him. He cast a deadened look at the spread, his voice hollow. "Put it down, Mom. I need to ask you something."

Corinne wouldn't take no for an answer, scooping a bowl of rice and holding it out. "Eat while it's hot, honey. Just a few bites. We can talk after. Come on, open up."

Yardley wasn't used to being coddled like a toddler. He pushed her hand away, his tone hardening. "I said, leave it. I'll eat later."
