How on earth did they manage to invite these people?
Doubts swirled in Yardley's mind. Then, his eyes landed on the deliberately placed photo collage in the top right corner of the signature wall. It was filled with pictures of Dawn, tracking her growth from the day she was born to her three-month milestone.
The pictures captured the baby's pure innocence and utter cuteness. While it filled him with a surge of affection, it also stabbed at his heart.
As a father, he wasn't even allowed to attend his own daughter's celebration.
Yardley felt a bitter mix of absurdity and heartbreak. Yet, staring at the open doors of the banquet hall, he simply lacked the courage to step inside.
Sylvia was just about to complain when she noticed his devastated expression.
His eyes clearly reflected an endless longing and sorrow for Scarlett and the baby. Sylvia felt as if someone had just reached into her chest and ripped her heart in two.
She had already lost Julian completely. She absolutely refused to let Yardley's heart be stolen away by Scarlett again.
She made a silent vow.
Her eyes reddened as she pitifully clung to his arm. "Yardley, you didn't see how brazen Julian and Scarlett were just now! They were standing together greeting guests. And Julian's whole family—three generations of them—turned out to support her!"
"I'm seriously starting to suspect that the baby is Julian's. Otherwise, the Croft family is notoriously low-profile; why would they care so much?"
Hearing this, Yardley's expression hardened instantly. "What did you say? The entire Croft family is here?"
Sylvia nodded vigorously. "Yes! I was so furious I actually went over and argued with Julian's parents."
"But I couldn't get a word in edgewise. The whole family completely sided with her! They act like she's one of their own!"
She paused before adding, "Oh, right! Julian's mother also claimed she and Jacqueline are old friends! I bet Scarlett and Julian didn't meet through you at all. I bet they've known each other for a long time!"
