He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 399

A fleeting, almost imperceptible flash of triumph crossed Sylvia's eyes.

She knew it. No matter how tough Yardley acted, he would always soften up for her in the end. He would never actually follow through with ignoring her.

"Okay," Sylvia replied obediently, trailing closely behind Yardley as they walked out.

With trembling hands, Harbour pulled out his phone and dialed Julian Croft's number.

The call connected quickly, and Julian's cool, steady voice came through the line. "What's up?"

"Holy crap! Julian, you won't even believe the massive bomb I just dropped in on!"

Harbour's voice cracked from the sheer shock of it all, carrying a sense of absurd disbelief. "This is wilder than any soap opera!"

Julian asked, "What is it?"

"It turns out Sylvia has been in love with Yardley this entire time! I always wondered why Yardley pushed her so hard onto you. It turns out he didn't want to cross the line since they were officially siblings, but he didn't want her to be miserable either, so he used you as a meat shield!"

The more Harbour spoke, the more ridiculous it sounded. His tone was laced with absolute disbelief.

Julian stayed silent for a moment, his voice remaining perfectly calm when he finally replied. "I already knew that."

"You knew?!" Harbour froze, clutching his chest as if he'd sustained internal injuries. "But what you don't know is that Yardley literally just told Sylvia he wants me to be her backup plan! Can you believe that?!"

On the other end of the line, Julian couldn't hold back a snort of laughter. "So, screwing me over wasn't enough. Now he's planning to screw over his last remaining loyal buddy?"
