Veronica was completely blindsided. She had never expected Julian to be this unyielding.
Panicked but desperate to maintain the upper hand, she shot to her feet, her voice pitching up an octave.
"Julian Croft! I am offering you an S-Class cultural tourism town project worth over a billion! If this succeeds, it will elevate the lead designer to legendary status in the industry!"
"There are dozens of top-tier firms begging to take this contract, firms with just as much talent as yours! I strongly suggest you... think very carefully about what you're throwing away!"
Julian's brow furrowed, but before he could deliver the final blow, Scarlett gently pressed her hand over his under the table.
Julian paused, glancing at her. He assumed she was going to cave to save the deal, but instead, Scarlett looked up, meeting Veronica's furious glare with absolute, unbreakable calm.
"So what?" Scarlett's voice was clear and cold. "As a professional, I expect my clients to show me basic respect. If we can't even manage that, then our visions will never align, and there is no foundation for a partnership."
"We were indeed very interested in your S-Class project. But if this collaboration isn't built on mutual respect and equality, we don't want it. Croft Design Studio isn't desperate for projects."
Veronica froze. She hadn't anticipated Scarlett having a spine of steel, either.
Looking into Scarlett's bright, defiant eyes, the hatred in Veronica's chest flared even higher.
"Fine. You want to play hardball? You want to be arrogant?" Veronica sneered, her lips twisting into a triumphant smirk. "We'll see how you feel when I hand this project to your rivals. Don't come crawling back to me crying."
With that, she snatched up her designer bag and stormed out, her assistants scurrying after her.
