Scarlett visibly jumped.
"Fifty million??"
No... Julian's divorce settlement alone was fifty million. The total loss had to be more.
Scarlett's jaw dropped.
"Don't tell me... five hundred million?"
Elara nodded.
"Exactly. Five years of marriage. Not only did it all blow up in our faces, but we spent five hundred million in hard cash."
*Crash!*
Scarlett felt an explosion go off in her chest. It was as if her heart shattered against her ribs.
A sudden, violent wave of fury erupted from her very core.
In an instant, her blood began to boil.
"Your family really is too kind. Way too kind."
Scarlett downed an entire glass of wine in one go and smiled bitterly at Elara.
"Do you want to know what I got out of my five-year marriage to Yardley?"
Elara looked at her curiously.
"How much? The Flynns are a top-tier family. I imagine what they gave you wasn't too far off from what we gave Sylvia, right?"
Scarlett slowly held up five fingers of her own.
Elara guessed, "Fifty million?"
Scarlett shook her head with a dark laugh. "No. Five million. In the negative."
Julian had never mentioned these details to Scarlett, so she only vaguely knew that Sylvia had profited from her marriage. She had no idea Sylvia had walked away with a literal fortune.
A fickle, cheating woman who had another man's baby had managed to leave with her reputation intact and a massive payout.
While Scarlett... she had bled herself dry for her marriage, bending over backward and fighting tooth and nail, yet to this day, she hadn't received a single sincere apology from the Flynns, nor had she seen an ounce of genuine care for her child.
As Scarlett laughed, tears began to fall.
"How can the difference between two people's lives be this extreme?"
Elara was sobbing too. She pulled Scarlett into a tight embrace.
"You poor thing! It's despicable!"
"A massive family like the Flynns, constantly bragging about their perfect image! But inside, they're rotten to the core! Absolutely rotten!"
"Scarlett, hearing this feels like taking a knife to the heart! I feel so bad for you!"
