He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 486

Scarlett took a deep breath, taking a moment to collect herself before pushing open the hospital room door.

Inside, Jacqueline and Elara were seated on the visitor's couch. Zara stood nearby, while Julian was by the window, having just coaxed Dawn to sleep.

Scarlett stepped closer to peek at the little girl. Dawn's breathing was steady; though her tiny face still carried a sickly pallor, she looked incredibly peaceful.

Julian carefully transferred the sleeping child into Zara's arms. Then, the four adults quietly slipped out into the hallway.

"How did it go?" Julian asked softly.

"Talia found out that Veronica has been cozying up to Sylvia and Melanie," Scarlett replied, keeping her voice low. "And she still has fantasies about Yardley. I'm guessing she wants to get her hands on Dawn's medical records to stir up trouble."

She paused, her gaze darkening. "Also, it was Veronica who pulled the strings to get Sylvia released. The three of them have formed a little alliance now. I bet those three companies that suddenly terminated our contracts did so because of their dirty work behind the scenes."

Julian frowned. "Scarlett, do you want me to put direct pressure on Thorne Industries? I can make Veronica back off."

Scarlett shook her head. "Not yet. I want to see what their next move is."

She turned her attention to Jacqueline and Elara. "Mom, Elara... please don't tell anyone that Dawn doesn't actually have leukemia. Keep it strictly between us for now."

Then, she looked back at Julian. "As for Veronica wanting those medical files, have Dr. Fischer forge a chart confirming a leukemia diagnosis and give it to her."

Surprise flickered in Julian's eyes. "You want to play right into their hands? Just to see how far they'll go?"
