He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 492

"Choose!" Julian's voice cracked like a whip, his gaze sharp and lethal. A chilling, dominant aura radiated from him, filling the entire room.

Veronica recoiled, genuinely intimidated by his overwhelming presence. Remembering how her own father always cowered before him, she realized she was entirely outmatched. Seething, she resentfully picked herself up from the floor.

She had managed to slap Talia, but she certainly hadn't escaped unscathed. She had a nasty bump forming on her head, her right ankle was twisted, the heel of her designer stiletto had snapped off, and a piercing pain shot through her foot with every slight movement.

"Fine. You win this round!" she hissed. "Julian, Talia, Scarlett... you'll all pay for this!"

Spitting out her venomous threat, Veronica turned and hobbled out of the hospital room. Stripped of her dignity, she looked utterly pathetic in her retreat.

Scarlett quickly handed the baby to Zara before rushing to the mini-fridge in the corner of the room. She grabbed an ice pack and gently pressed it into Talia's hand.

Seeing the angry red welt swelling on Talia's cheek made Scarlett's heart ache. "Talia, please don't stick your neck out for me like this again. You shouldn't be making enemies on my account."

Talia took the ice pack and held it against her face, wincing as she inhaled sharply. But her eyes remained fiercely stubborn. "No way. The more people you have in your corner, the better! And believe me, I'll pay Veronica back for that slap eventually. Count on it."

Jaw clenched, Talia aimed a provocative, threatening wave of her fist right at Yardley.

Yardley stood frozen in the middle of the room, looking at the hostile faces surrounding him. He felt completely cornered. These were people who should have been his inner circle: his wife, his child, his former best buddy, his wife's best friend...

They used to be so close. How had it all disintegrated into this toxic, irreparable mess?
