Hearing the word "divorce" fall from Franklin's lips, Corinne trembled uncontrollably. She couldn't believe her ears.
"Franklin, what did you just say? You're divorcing me?" she cried. "I've been by your side all these years! I raised your children through thick and thin! And now that I'm older, just because I made a tiny mistake, you're holding it against me and demanding a divorce?! Are you even human?!"
All the grievances Corinne had swallowed over the years completely shattered at his demand. She broke down, sobbing hysterically as she accused him of being heartless and ungrateful.
Franklin, however, looked at her without a shred of affection. His eyes held nothing but bone-deep irritation. "You have the nerve to bring that up? Look at the kids you raised! Look at what they've become! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree—it's entirely your lack of discipline that made them turn out this way!"
He gestured furiously. "I was a fool to step down so early and hand the CEO position over to your son! Look at him! My massive Flynn Group is practically crumbling in his hands! If you ask me, he should resign from the Business Association and step down as CEO right now! He doesn't have what it takes to lead. If the company stays in his hands, it's doomed!"
Franklin openly belittled Yardley, stripping away every ounce of his pride.
Yardley slowly looked up, his bloodshot eyes full of disbelief. He couldn't fathom that these degrading, humiliating words were coming from the father who had once looked at him with such pride and admiration.
