He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 522

It was getting late. Harbour had only just been released from police custody that afternoon and was still severely shaken. The last thing he wanted was to leave his house.

The events of the previous night had left a massive shadow over him. Thank God he had stuck to his principles and refused to touch any of the drugs, otherwise he'd still be locked up in a cell. Usually an easygoing guy, his heart was still pounding with the terror of a close call.

For the foreseeable future, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with anyone from the Flynn family. They were a walking disaster.

So, when he saw Yardley's name on his phone, Harbour rejected the call without a second thought.

Yardley tried three times in a row. Every single call was sent straight to voicemail. Getting the message, he finally stopped trying.

The last ship of friendship had sunk. He was now utterly, hopelessly alone.

His face numb, Yardley dragged his exhausted body through the streets until he subconsciously ended up at Quinn's Cellar, the private spot where he and his friends used to hang out. But when he reached out to push the door open, he found it padlocked. A sign reading "For Lease" was taped to the glass.

Yardley stared at the sign for a long time. A bitter, self-deprecating smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. It seemed he had lost not only his friends, but his last remaining sanctuary.

Despondent, he returned to Orchard Villa.
