He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 526

The woman beneath him was objectively beautiful, incredibly eager, and full of seductive charm... but she did absolutely nothing for him.

He leaned down, closing his eyes tightly to try and force himself into the moment. He even reached out and turned off the lights, hoping the darkness would help.

But fifteen minutes later, he abruptly sat up and flicked the bedside lamp back on.

He couldn't do it.

The way she felt, the sounds she made, her entire approach—it was all wrong. It actually repulsed him.

It was as if his body possessed a stubborn muscle memory that belonged entirely to Scarlett. The presence of any other woman triggered a visceral rejection, bordering on nausea.

His mind was entirely consumed by the unique, captivating allure Scarlett used to show only to him. She didn't have Veronica's practiced techniques or varied repertoire, and sometimes she had even seemed a little clumsy, but that shy, half-reluctant surrender of hers was more intoxicating than anything else. It always made him want to conquer, to explore, and to claim her again and again.

Unlike the woman currently in his bed, who sparked absolutely zero desire in him.

Veronica froze, completely bewildered by his sudden withdrawal. Humiliation burned in her chest, but she didn't dare show her temper. Instead, she anxiously grabbed his arm.

"Yardley, what's wrong? Did I do something wrong? I can—"

He smoothly detached her hand, stood up, and tightly secured the belt of his robe. Walking over to the window, he pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

"Sorry. It's not you," he said coldly, exhaling a plume of smoke. "Things are just moving a bit too fast. I guess I'm not ready."

Veronica got up and walked toward him, arms outstretched to embrace him from behind, but she caught nothing but air.
