But Franklin vastly underestimated the situation. Not only was Corinne practically impossible to shake off, but all four of their children were firmly in her corner.
In response to his threat, Corinne let out a harsh, mocking laugh.
"Oh, cut the crap, Franklin! If you actually wanted to give her those shares, you would have done it years ago. You don't need to use it as a threat now."
She glared at him, her eyes burning holes into his suddenly pale face as she mercilessly tore apart his bluff.
"You're just using her for her youth and her fake sweetness. Deep down, you don't trust her any more than I do! You think you're going to take the Flynn family fortune and play house with your little mistress? In your dreams!"
Franklin hadn't expected Corinne to call his bluff so publicly, right in front of Irene. He began to tremble with rage.
"You... shut your mouth!"
"If you had just maintained a shred of dignity and stopped causing these scenes, I might have given you a decent settlement out of respect for our years together."
"But if you keep acting like a lunatic, don't blame me for leaving you penniless!"
Corinne planted her hands on her hips, her laughter turning dark and menacing.
"You wish! If anyone's walking away with absolutely nothing, it's you!"
"Did you really think I didn't know? I know exactly what you've been doing. I know you've been quietly transferring properties and assets into that little slut's name, and into the names of her bastards!"
"That is illegal embezzlement of marital assets, Franklin! And I have all the proof!"
"Try me. I will have my lawyers file an injunction tomorrow and claw back every single dime. I'll leave your precious little homewrecker freezing on the street!"
With a triumphant smirk, Corinne aggressively played her trump card.
Both Franklin and Irene turned visibly pale.
Franklin stared at Corinne in sheer disbelief, his jaw clenching so hard his teeth audibly ground together.
"Corinne, you've completely lost your mind!"
"Irene has been by my side for years. She's a de facto part of this family, and everyone knows it! If you dare drag this to court, I'll... I swear, I'll—"
