He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 675

Yardley felt as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head.

Seeing Scarlett's absolute rejection, and then processing how close she had become with Julian—and even Julian's parents—filled him with a suffocating mix of anxiety and rage.

Yes, he had made mistakes in the past. But no matter how wrong he had been, it wasn't like he had committed murder or wiped out her entire bloodline! Why did she refuse to let go of those past grievances? Why was she treating him like an absolute pariah?

He glanced at the small bag of toys Julian was holding.

When he arrived earlier, he had brought an entire car full of gifts. He had bought food, clothes, toys, and supplies—anything the store clerks recommended for a baby her age, he had bought without a second thought.

A godfather was still just a godfather. There was no blood relation. How could Julian ever love Dawn as selflessly as her own biological father did?

Why was it that no matter how much Yardley did, Scarlett refused to acknowledge it and obstinately withheld her forgiveness?

Yet Julian had barely done a fraction of the work, and he easily walked into the role of godfather. Even his parents got to swoop in and claim the titles of god-grandparents.

The more Yardley thought about it, the more violently unbalanced he felt.

He stood frozen, his face darkening to a stormy thundercloud. Despite the overwhelming humiliation and anger burning inside him, he desperately didn't want to leave.

If he walked out that door now, it would be another entire month before he could see his daughter again.

Suddenly, a month felt like an eternity.

The raw, tender ache in his heart flared up again.

Unable to stop himself, he walked back over to Zara, reaching out to hold Dawn one last time, just to be near her a little longer.

But to his shock, the little angel who had been giggling at him just moments ago suddenly pouted her lips and let out a loud, wailing cry.

While Yardley stood there bewildered, Dawn violently waved her little arms, struggling frantically to get out of Zara's embrace. She practically threw herself in Julian's direction.

"Da-da-da..."

Through her tears, Dawn looked up at Julian with wide, pitiful eyes and babbled the distinct sound for "Daddy."
