Scarlett had assumed that after Sylvia's endless string of embarrassing, reputation-destroying antics, Craig would be eager to wash his hands of her.
She definitely hadn't expected him to show up in person to take her home.
More surprisingly, he and Corinne were chatting and laughing together like old friends.
A cold smirk tugged at the corner of Scarlett's mouth.
At that moment, Yardley looked up and their eyes met.
He stared at Scarlett first, before his gaze naturally drifted to the baby resting comfortably in Julian's arms.
Yardley's lips instantly pressed into a hard, thin line.
Meanwhile, Sylvia, Corinne, and Craig noticed the scene at the same time.
Babies changed at an astonishing rate. It had been months since Corinne had last laid eyes on Dawn.
Seeing the pink-cheeked, beautiful little girl in Julian's arms, a calculating gleam flickered in Corinne's eyes.
"She's gotten so big... Yardley, is... is that...?"
Yardley shot Julian a complicated look. "Yes. That's Felicia."
"Wow, Felicia has grown so much! She must be seven or eight months old by now, right?"
"Felicia, sweetie, it's Grandma..."
Whether driven by some innate biological pull or a desire to put on a show for the crowd, Corinne suddenly lunged forward. She reached out, attempting to snatch the baby from Julian's arms, her face plastered with a mask of exaggerated maternal affection.
Julian instinctively shifted his weight, turning his shoulder to shield the baby.
At the same time, a slender hand shot out, physically blocking Corinne's path.
"Excuse me," Scarlett said, her voice freezing over. "Her name is Dawn, not Felicia. You have the wrong child."
Corinne kept her eyes glued to the baby, biting her lip in a theatrical display of grievance.
"Scarlett, I know you're bitter about the divorce. I understand why you'd be upset with us."
