He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 722

The moment they returned to the Flynn Manor after the ceremony, Corinne grabbed an expensive antique vase and smashed it against the wall.

Still seething, she picked up a heavy crystal ashtray from the coffee table, fully intending to hurl it at the floor, but Clarissa lunged forward and grabbed her arm.

"Mom, stop! That's Dad's favorite ashtray. If you break it, you two are just going to get into another huge screaming match!"

"I am so sick of this! I am absolutely suffocating!"

Corinne furiously yanked at the collar of her sheath dress, rubbing her chest as if trying to force the anger out of her lungs. "How the hell is Scarlett pulling this off? Did she suddenly learn magic?"

"One day she's winning awards, the next she's the president of an association, and now she's an executive director representing our biggest shareholder! Where is she getting all this power? It has to be that Croft boy pulling the strings for her behind the scenes!"

Corinne's eyes darted frantically, her rage burning too hot to be contained.

Melanie's eyes mirrored her mother's fury. She wanted to trash the room just as badly but forced herself to stay composed. "It has to be! There's no way she could pull this off without the Croft family backing her!"

"Mom, we can't just sit around and take this. We have to find a way to drive a wedge between her and the Crofts!"

"Wait—don't you and Elara Chapman have a mutual friend? That famous florist in Bay City, Heidi. Right?"

Corinne shot her a weird look. "Yeah, so what? My blood pressure is through the roof. I don't care about flower arrangements right now."

Melanie raised an eyebrow, looking smug. "On it. As long as Heidi gets in Elara's ear, there's no way a woman as strict as Elara will tolerate a manipulative gold-digger like Scarlett."

Mother and daughter shared a conspiratorial smile.

Clarissa, however, looked uneasy. She couldn't help but interject. "Mom, Melanie... when does this end? I really think you should just let this go."

"Scarlett is an executive director at the company now. She has a say in major corporate decisions. This is the worst possible time to antagonize her. You're just going to make things harder for Yardley."

Even Catherine, who usually acted like a ghost in her own home, spoke up softly. "Clarissa is right. Vincent practically begged me to make sure the family doesn't cross Scarlett again. He said she's not someone we can afford to mess with."
