The two of them had been comparing different styles. Either the pieces were too heavy and Scarlett didn't want Talia spending that much money, or they were too light and Talia felt they weren't special enough.
Right in the middle of their friendly arguing, Catherine's voice drifted over.
Scarlett recognized it immediately and turned around.
When their eyes met, both women looked equally surprised.
"Scarlett..." Catherine said, a mix of shock and mild pleasure in her tone. "You're shopping here too?"
Caught off guard, Scarlett blinked before offering a polite smile. "Yes. Shopping for a gift?"
Catherine was never one for small talk, and her interactions with Scarlett in the past had been minimal, limited entirely to tense family gatherings.
Scarlett didn't have many memories of her, save for one. Years ago, Melanie had purposely humiliated Scarlett by demanding she go out into the courtyard to pick flowers in the middle of a torrential downpour. Just as Scarlett was about to step out into the rain, Catherine had quietly appeared with a large black umbrella, walking out into the storm with her.
It was a distant memory, almost hazy now. But that tiny fraction of kindness had always made Scarlett harbor far less resentment toward Catherine than the rest of the Flynns.
Plus, she had recently learned from her brother that Catherine's husband, Vincent, was actually an employee under AM Capital. Her brother was technically his ultimate boss.
Catherine offered an awkward smile, clearly not knowing what to say.
She turned back to the clerk and pointed at a beautifully crafted golden locket in the display case. "I'll take that one, please."
The clerk looked surprised. "Are you sure, ma'am? It looks delicate, but it's pure gold and weighs a solid hundred grams."
"Yes," Catherine nodded firmly. "That one."
"That's really not necessary. You should keep it," Scarlett instinctively declined. She had zero interest in accepting anything from the Flynn family.
But Catherine unexpectedly forced the box into her hands, her emotions suddenly surging as her eyes welled with tears.
"You have to take it, Scarlett! Please!"
"As the daughter this family never cared about, I know exactly what it feels like when your own blood ignores and neglects you!"
"I... I don't have a lot of power, but I want Dawn to know that not everyone in the Flynn family is a monster!"
"At least her Aunt Catherine genuinely loves her. I just want her to grow up happy and healthy!"
Catherine's face flushed deeply with emotion, her hands gripping Scarlett's tightly. The raw intensity in her voice hit Scarlett like a tidal wave, shattering the cold, indifferent wall she had built up against her ex-husband's family.
