He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 725

A soft, guarded place in Scarlett's heart completely broke open.

She looked down at the heavy gift box pressed into her hands, overwhelmed by a rush of conflicting emotions.

Since Dawn was born, this was only the second time anyone from that family had shown her a shred of kindness.

The first time was when Clarissa had come over to drop off some gifts and an insurance policy—but Clarissa had done it with an air of condescending charity.

Catherine, on the other hand, was entirely sincere. Scarlett could see the genuine desperation in her eyes; she really just wanted to give the little girl something meaningful.

Instead of pushing it away again, Scarlett accepted the box with both hands.

"Alright. I'll accept it on Dawn's behalf. Thank you, Aunt Catherine."

The usual icy defense Scarlett wore around the Flynns melted away, replaced by the gentle warmth of a mother.

A look of immense relief washed over Catherine's face, and she managed a wobbly, tearful smile. "Would it be okay... if I came to visit her sometime?"

"I... I love children so much. But I've been married for so long, and I just can't seem to carry a baby to term."

As she spoke, her eyes grew red again.

Even though they had barely spoken in the past, Scarlett knew a bit about Catherine's struggles and the misery of her marriage.

She gave Catherine's hand a comforting squeeze. "I actually know a highly respected holistic healer. I can give you his contact information. Since you're back in the country, you should go see him and let him help you recover."

Scarlett pulled out her phone, found the number, and had Catherine save it.

Catherine looked at the contact info like it was a lifeline, deeply grateful.

Then, taking a deep breath as if making a massive decision, she pulled Scarlett slightly aside and lowered her voice.

"Scarlett, there's something I need to warn you about."

"My mother and sisters think the only reason you're successful right now is because of Julian. They're going to try and sabotage your relationship with the Croft family."

"Whatever," Talia huffed. "Just don't trust them. As far as I'm concerned, the whole bloodline is toxic."

Scarlett didn't argue.

Since Catherine had already bought the locket, Talia happily picked out a pair of gold baby bracelets instead.

Shopping done, the two women headed back to the Magnolia Villa.

The next morning was Saturday. Scarlett had planned on sleeping in, but her phone rang early, pulling her out of bed.

It was Elara Chapman, inviting her to a flower arranging class.

They hadn't seen each other in a while. Elara had tried to invite her out a few times recently, but Scarlett had always found an excuse to politely decline.
