He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 731

"Enough. Let's go. Stop making a fool of yourself."

Yardley gritted his teeth, his face dark as he grabbed Corinne's arm and dragged her away without another word.

In an instant, the spacious room was left with only Scarlett, Elara, and Heidi.

Heidi looked at Scarlett, letting out an awkward laugh as she hurriedly apologized. "I'm so sorry, Scarlett. I shouldn't have spread rumors about your private life without verifying them. I apologize."

Scarlett's expression was cold, devoid of any emotion. "Heidi, you're a respected figure in Bay City's floral design community. I always admired you. I just never expected you to be the kind of person who blindly echoes baseless gossip."

She paused, her gaze sharpening. "I hope this is the last time I hear these rumors from you. If I catch you making up stories and ruining my mother's reputation again, I won't hesitate to get my lawyers involved."

Heidi shrank back under Scarlett's icy stare, feeling a chill creep down her spine. A flash of displeasure crossed her face. "Scarlett, there's no need to speak like that. Are you threatening me?"

Scarlett didn't immediately argue. She just looked at her calmly. "It's not a threat. It's a fact."

"My family is my bottom line. If anyone dares to insult them, I absolutely will not let it slide."

Elara patted the back of Scarlett's hand and turned her gaze to Heidi. "Heidi, you're a smart woman. Scarlett is already cutting you some slack. I suggest you stop letting others use you as a pawn. Ultimately, this has nothing to do with you. Why stir up trouble?"

Being tag-teamed by the two, Heidi's face flushed with embarrassment, and she finally lowered her head.

"Let's go, Scarlett. It's my fault for bringing you here today to deal with this mess. Let me treat you to some coffee to make up for it."

With that, Elara took Scarlett's hand and turned to leave without a backward glance.

"I know, I know. You're going to say you aren't ready to start a new relationship yet, right?" Elara blinked playfully. "It's fine. You don't have to give me an answer right away. Take your time to think it over."

Then, Elara took a deep breath. "The real reason I brought you here is to talk about what Corinne mentioned—your grandmother's side of the family."

Scarlett's heart instantly leaped into her throat. "Elara, do you know something?"

A flicker of apprehension appeared in Elara's eyes. "I wasn't sure if I should tell you. I was worried your mother might think I'm overstepping. But since Corinne already brought it up, I'm afraid you'll start wondering if I stay quiet. So, I figured it's best to tell you what I know."

Scarlett immediately sat up straight, ready to listen.

Elara began, "Years ago, your maternal grandfather's family—the Langleys—were the wealthiest and most influential family in all of Bay City. Their legacy was even deeper than the Croft family's. Your grandmother had two sons and one daughter. Your mother was the youngest, and she grew up being endlessly pampered and loved by everyone."
