If it really was a setup, then Scarlett was unbelievably ruthless.
During the divorce, he had put aside their past grievances and given her a massive settlement, financial security, and a one percent equity stake. She should have been satisfied. Instead, she was allegedly colluding with outside forces to drive the Flynn Group into the ground.
His company was his entire empire. It was the pillar of his life. If she truly intended to destroy him, then whatever lingering affection he had for her would evaporate entirely.
He didn't want their past marriage to end in an all-out war.
Whether she admitted it or not, Yardley genuinely believed he had shown her an unprecedented level of mercy. He prayed his suspicions were wrong.
But since the thought had crossed his mind, he had to uncover the truth during this trip to Country A. He needed to know if Mr. Bishop was Bill, and if Bill was Scarlett's flesh and blood.
Clenching his fists, he turned away, gripping the humiliating standard room keycard as he headed down the hall.
When he unlocked the door, his mood plummeted further. It wasn't just a standard room—it was arguably the worst room in the entire hotel. The view was terrible, the layout was cramped, and the space was barely three hundred square feet with only a single bed.
He had never stayed in a place so dismal.
This stark contrast in treatment was obviously a calculated move by AM Capital to put him in his place. He had assumed their companies were equal partners, but clearly, the other side viewed him with contempt.
His frustration reached a boiling point.
However, despite their close relationship, sharing a suite as an unmarried man and woman felt a bit inappropriate.
He was about to politely decline when a sudden, dramatic moan echoed through the wall from the adjacent room. The sound of a couple enthusiastically having sex was unmistakable.
Not only was his room tiny and bleak, but the soundproofing was practically nonexistent. And Yardley valued his sleep above all else.
Besides, Scarlett was staying on the top floor with Julian and Stellan, completely unbothered by appearances. If she could be so brazen, why was he overthinking this? Anything was better than suffering in this cramped cell.
"Are you there? Do you want to come over?" Sylvia's enthusiastic voice chimed again. "I just made dinner too. Come taste my cooking, please?"
