He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 755

There was a man sitting quietly in the dimness of her room.

He was wearing a sharply tailored black button-down, the collar slightly unbuttoned. His features were devastatingly handsome—almost breathtaking—but his dark, piercing eyes and the sickly pallor of his skin gave him a brooding, shadowy aura.

The moment she saw him, her mind immediately jumped to a portrait of a medieval nobleman hanging in some ancient European cathedral.

He shared some of her facial structure, but his presence was overwhelmingly intense. His gaze alone sent a chill down her spine, like a cold draft sweeping through the room.

Because of the shadows, she could only see his hands resting on his lap and the strange, unnerving emptiness where his legs should be under his dark trousers.

But beneath the brooding exterior and the faint traces of a memory long faded, Scarlett recognized him almost instantly.

Her hand began to tremble uncontrollably.

A second later, her phone slipped from her fingers, clattering loudly against the hardwood floor.

"Scarlett? Scarlett? What's going on?" Talia yelled frantically from the speaker.

Scarlett didn't hear her.

The entire world had gone dead silent, leaving only the thunderous pounding of her own heart.

She walked forward, completely tuning out the noise from the phone.

When she finally stood in front of him, she forced herself to stop, burying the overwhelming surge of emotion.

Taking a shaky breath, she managed a remarkably calm, controlled whisper.

"Zachary."

He slowly looked up, his gaze locking onto hers.

The bond of blood, steeped in years of desperate longing, erupted to the surface.

Tears welled up in her eyes. Fighting the urge to break down, she instinctively reached out, her hand brushing against his pant leg.

When she felt the hard, unforgiving surface of mechanical metal instead of soft muscle, her heart plummeted like a stone cast into an abyss.

She knew exactly what he was trying to say.

They had both endured unimaginable hardships, clawing their way through years of brutal suffering. Just being alive to see each other again was a miracle.

Her voice cracked. "What's good about it? Tell me what's good about this. Look at you... your legs..."

She couldn't accept the reality of what he had lost.
