He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 754

Yardley's eyes locked onto Julian's arm resting on the wall beside Scarlett, his hands curling into tight fists.

He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Julian had her cornered against the wall, gazing down at her. The angle, the proximity—it was the kind of intimacy reserved for lovers.

And the worst part? She wasn't backing away. She wasn't pushing him off. Her ears were flushed a deep crimson.

That blush felt like a knife twisting in Yardley's eyes.

His lips pressed into a hard line, his Adam's apple bobbing sharply.

Without a second of hesitation, he turned on his heel and strode toward the stairwell.

He had spent ages mentally preparing himself for this. He had told himself that she and Julian would eventually end up together. But anticipating it and seeing it with his own two eyes were entirely different things.

His chest physically ached, and his composed facade almost shattered.

"You two are absolutely shameless! If you're going to make out, could you at least do it in private?" Sylvia snapped, glaring at them as Yardley stormed off.

Scarlett let out a cold laugh. "Sylvia, that's rich coming from you. When it comes to being shameless, you've got a master's degree."

The sheer sarcasm in her voice stopped Sylvia in her tracks, her face cycling through shades of red and white.

"You... you..." She desperately wanted to fire back, but she was completely out of comebacks, sputtering uselessly.

"Ignore her." Julian's gaze swept past Sylvia as if she were made of air. He pressed the close button, sealing them off from the toxicity outside.

The interruption had completely ruined the charged atmosphere between them.

Scarlett paused. "You think he's liked me this whole time? But he never made a move! He kept telling me to treat him like a brother. Plus, what's there to like? I'm an older single mom. He's gorgeous and comes from a massively wealthy family..."

Talia rolled her eyes so hard they almost got stuck.

"Scarlett, can you please have an ounce of self-esteem? Look at all the titles you hold now! Does none of that make you feel confident? Stop putting yourself down! You're literally about to win a gold medal and become a top-tier architect!"

Scarlett couldn't help but laugh at her friend's exasperation.

She was about to reply when she casually glanced up, her eyes moving past her phone screen to the window on the far side of the room.

In that instant, her breath hitched.

Outside, the dazzling neon skyline of Country A glittered like a river of stars, but all of that brilliance was entirely eclipsed by the dark, heavy silhouette sitting silently in the shadows.
