He had waited in her room specifically to have this private reunion, keeping his return entirely off the radar for now.
He was already in the process of transferring his massive wealth into Country H, slowly shifting his business empire back home. Investing in the Flynn Group and throwing billions into establishing the Croft Group alongside Julian were all calculated moves in his grand strategy.
He knew better than anyone that absolute secrecy was the key to success. Because of that, he didn't want anyone to know he was her brother just yet.
Now that he had immense power and resources, his return wasn't just about homesickness or restoring the glory of their fallen family name. He had a much darker purpose: uncovering the truth behind the suspicious tragedy that wiped out his grandfather's side of the family.
He had accidentally overheard a violent argument between his father and his aunt years ago, catching fragments of the truth. As the last male heir of the family, he was determined to drag the truth into the light and get justice.
Seeing his grim silence, Scarlett's curiosity peaked.
But just as she was about to demand the rest of the story, the doorbell rang.
"Scarlett, open up. I brought you some fruit," Julian's voice came through a voice note on her phone when she didn't answer immediately.
Zachary stood up. "Don't let him know I'm here. I'll hide in the bedroom."
He turned and started walking toward the adjacent room. The prosthetics still clearly gave him trouble, and watching his slightly unsteady gait made her heart twist. She wanted to rush forward and help him, but she held back, terrified of bruising his pride.
Once the bedroom door clicked shut, she went to the front door and opened it.
What she saw made her jaw drop.
Standing there was a jaw-droppingly handsome man, easily over six feet tall, holding a delicate porcelain plate of perfectly plump cherries.
The kicker? Julian, who was usually dressed in impeccable suits or crisp casual wear, was wearing nothing but a black silk robe.
Her mind was completely short-circuiting, zeroing in on the sharp lines of his torso. She swallowed hard, her throat painfully dry. "Look, I'm not thirsty, you don't need to—"
The second the words left her mouth, panic set in. She aggressively backpedaled. "I mean, I'm not hungry or thirsty!"
That correction didn't sound any better. She buried her face in her hand, letting out a mortified sigh as her cheeks burned crimson.
Julian's lips curved into a devastating smirk. "I know you're not hungry. But I washed these just for you. Humor me."
Despite his casual tone, he smoothly sidestepped her, walking straight into the entryway and kicking the door shut behind him.
As he set the plate down on the entryway console and turned around, the loose knot on his robe miraculously untied itself, the silk parting to put his entire torso on full display.
Without warning, a view straight out of a romance novel was shoved directly into her line of sight.
