But that original post was uploaded to a tiny, obscure domestic architecture forum years ago. It had made absolutely zero waves and sank to the bottom of the internet almost immediately.
Who on earth would be so obsessed, treating it like finding a needle in a haystack, to dig up a dead thread from years past?
A specific face instantly flashed through Scarlett's mind, and suddenly, she knew exactly who was behind this.
Yardley stood there, eagerly waiting for her tearful gratitude. Instead, he found Scarlett staring at him with a chilling, utterly indifferent gaze.
"Are you done?" she asked smoothly. "If you're done, I'm going to take my seat."
Yardley stared at her, utterly baffled. "I just laid out exactly how bad this is, and you're still not running? You're actually going to sit down?"
Scarlett's eyes were terrifyingly calm. "Yes. This is my business. Thank you for the heads-up, Yardley, but I know exactly what I'm doing."
Without wasting another breath on him, Scarlett turned and walked gracefully back toward Julian.
Julian had been watching them the entire time. Though he couldn't hear the words over the ambient noise of the venue, he could read their body language. Yardley had clearly dropped some kind of bomb, but Scarlett seemed completely unfazed.
Sure enough, the moment she sat down, she leaned in and murmured, "The silver award winner secretly reported me for plagiarism. They might make a huge scene out of it tonight."
Julian's heart skipped a beat. "How is that possible? You drafted that design with your own two hands. Why would he target you?"
Scarlett looked entirely unbothered. "It's fine. A clear conscience laughs at false accusations. Do you want to guess whose work he's claiming I stole?"
Julian frowned. "Whose?"
But as she thought about the spectacular disaster about to unfold on stage, her rage slowly morphed into twisted anticipation. *Enjoy it while it lasts, Scarlett.*
Once the plagiarism was exposed, verified, and broadcast to the world, Scarlett's life would be over! Everything she had—Yardley, Julian, her career, her dignity—would be ripped away.
Sylvia was practically vibrating with excitement to see Scarlett beaten down like a stray dog. She had been so impatient that she'd already leaked the plan to Melanie Flynn.
Melanie had texted back, saying she was currently on a flight to Country A to witness the glorious execution in person. Sylvia had specifically warned Melanie not to tell Veronica Thorne. Even though Sylvia maintained a fake, plastic friendship with Veronica, she had no intention of sharing the spotlight—or Yardley's potential gratitude—with her.
The lights dimmed, and the ceremony officially began. The host stepped up to the podium.
The moment of truth had finally arrived.
