"If you're on board, I'll start making the arrangements as soon as we're back in the country."
"Just relax," he added softly. "Think of it as finding a reliable partner. Having an extra set of shoulders to help carry the weight has to be better than bearing it all alone."
"Yeah."
She ran through the complicated, tangled mess of her life one more time. This path seemed inevitable. It solved multiple problems, gave her an exit strategy, and benefited her on every front.
She offered a soft murmur of agreement, cementing their pact.
Meanwhile, Veronica followed Yardley into his suite.
Seeing his swollen cheeks filled her with indignation. She immediately ordered room service to bring up ice, personally pressing a cold towel to his face.
His expression was murderous.
He was still obsessing over what had just gone down in Julian’s room.
He just couldn't wrap his head around it. Julian was the one playing dirty tricks to get into her bed, yet she had slapped him twice.
The incident from their past had happened so long ago; what was done was done, and he had done the honorable thing by marrying her.
In his mind, he was the gold standard of a responsible man.
Yet, in her eyes, everything he had done was completely worthless. She had invalidated their entire history together.
Remembering how grateful she used to be, and comparing it to the merciless sting of those slaps, his heart shattered into a million jagged pieces.
Watching the broken look in his eyes and his battered face, a vicious glint flashed in Veronica’s eyes.
She had flown all the way to Country A hoping to watch Scarlett plummet from the peak of success to rock bottom, eager for a front-row seat to her ruin.
Instead, Scarlett was thriving, while Sylvia and Yardley had become the absolute laughingstocks of the event.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
She pursed her lips, a smug, satisfied smile spreading across her face.
"Your mysterious client's last name is Bishop, right?"
He blinked, caught off guard. "How did you know that?"
"Of course I know. I not only know that, but I also know exactly where he's going to be next."
Her eyes gleamed with calculating brilliance. "Do you remember what I told you before?"
"I told you that I am the best possible match for you. I can help you in ways she never could."
"I can help you get an audience with your client, and help you convince him to fire her. But I have one condition..."
He looked at her, his gaze darkening with suspicion.
"Which is?"
