He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 801

After being pulled into the vehicle, Scarlett fell asleep almost instantly.

More accurately, she lost consciousness entirely.

They were in a remote wasteland, a lawless narco-town where dispatching an ambulance was utterly impossible. Stellan had managed to track down their original car and drive it all the way out to find them.

Seeing Scarlett so unresponsive drove Julian to the brink of panic. He kept reaching out to check the temperature of her forehead, making sure her jaw wasn't clamped shut. Her complete lack of reaction left him tormented.

Though they had saved her, the physical toll was horrifying. All ten of her fingernails were cracked to varying degrees, with two completely torn off. Her face and body were marred by deep scratches, and angry red rope burns circled her wrists and ankles.

Whether from the sheer terror of the ordeal or total physical exhaustion, she was burning up with a severe fever.

Julian’s hands trembled. For the first time in his life, he was completely at a loss.

Stellan’s voice broke through the tension over a phone call. "The police are on their way. I have men guarding Charles, but he didn’t make it."

Even though he had braced himself for it, Julian’s heart sank. "What about Heath Sheridan? Where is he? We can’t let him off the hook, and we sure as hell can’t let him escape!"

"Don’t worry, we have him contained," Stellan replied. "His presence here is bizarre, but our initial sweep suggests he’s working for Kane Stetson. Bill thinks we should hold off on handing him over to the cops and deal with him ourselves."

"Fine."
