*Crash!*
The inexplicable anxiety churning inside him drove him to kick the large porcelain vase in the entryway with brutal force. It shattered against the floor, the booming crash echoing through the house.
Corinne and the others looked up in shock to see Yardley standing at the top of the stairs, his face so dark it looked like a gathering storm.
He radiated a suffocating tension. His eyes were bloodshot, rimmed with heavy, dark circles, making him look haggard and utterly exhausted. It was a stark, jarring contrast to the celebratory mood radiating from the women.
"Yardley, you're finally out! I was worried sick!" Corinne exclaimed. Seeing him finally emerge from his room, she hurried over, grabbing his hand with a look of deep concern. "Are you hungry? Is there anything you'd like to eat? Just tell me, and I'll go make it right now."
Yardley violently shook off her hand. He glared at her, his brows knit into a tight, severe line. "Mom, do you all see me as some heartless animal?"
His fierce gaze swept over everyone in the room. Before they could react, he swept his arm across the table, sending wine bottles and plates crashing to the floor. The sound of shattering glass was piercing in the sudden, dead silence of the living room.
His sharp question and violent actions stunned the women, completely halting their party. For a moment, they just stared at each other, entirely at a loss.
Clarissa, snapping out of her shock, realized their behavior had crossed a line. She instinctively tugged at Yardley's sleeve. "Yardley, please don't be so angry. Mom and the rest of us just figured we were in our own home, with no one watching, so we let loose a bit."
