He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 819

Carrying a massive, heavy heart and a bouquet of chrysanthemums, Yardley arrived at the front gates of the Magnolia Villa.

Consumed by grief over the past few days, his mother's sharp reminder had finally snapped him back to reality. With Scarlett 'gone,' he was now Dawn's sole surviving immediate family member.

The thought of his little girl losing her mother at such a tender age felt like an invisible hand mercilessly tearing at his chest.

His expression grave and solemn, he pressed the doorbell.

A moment later, Jacqueline opened the door. The instant she saw Yardley standing on the porch, her expression turned to ice.

Jacqueline was fully aware that Scarlett and Julian were perfectly safe, so she wasn't experiencing a shred of actual grief.

Seeing Yardley standing there with a bouquet of mourning flowers felt not only irritating but utterly ridiculous. She couldn't stop herself from snapping at him. "Yardley, what the hell are you doing here?"

Yardley kept his posture rigidly straight, his face serious. "Mom, the dead cannot be brought back. I hope you can find some con—"

"Who are you calling Mom? I am not your mother!" Jacqueline cut him off sharply, her tone dripping with impatience. "Cut the devoted widower act, Yardley. If you have something to say, spit it out."

Yardley's jaw twitched slightly, but he forcefully swallowed his frustration. He looked her in the eye and spoke in a tight, formal tone. "Alright. I'll get straight to the point."

"Ms. Langley, I'm here today to discuss Dawn's living arrangements going forward. I'd appreciate it if you let me inside so we can have a proper conversation about this."

Scarlett had already warned Jacqueline that this exact scenario would play out.
