"The law decides whether I have the right or not."
Yardley didn't back down an inch, meeting Jacqueline's furious glare head-on. "I didn't come here to start a fight with you, and I certainly didn't come to rip a child from your arms."
"I'm simply asking you to prepare yourself to hand Dawn over to me. If necessary, I will hire a legal team and handle this transition strictly through the courts."
He paused, a flicker of genuine plea entering his voice. "But I really don't want us to end up battling in a courtroom. Not when Scarlett's memory is still so fresh."
Jacqueline shot him a venomous look, raw fury simmering just beneath the surface of her icy exterior.
Without another word, she spun around and stalked back inside.
Yardley's tightly clenched jaw relaxed slightly. *She's caving,* he thought. *She's going back inside to get Dawn.*
The thought of holding his soft, perfect little girl again made his heart swell with warmth.
He quickly calculated how long it had been. He hadn't seen his daughter in ages. A baby that young changed every single day; she must have grown so much. He wondered if she had learned to say 'Dad' yet.
He stood on the porch, deeply lost in hopeful anticipation.
A moment later, Jacqueline reappeared, marching out the door carrying a large basin filled to the brim with water.
Yardley frowned in confusion, opening his mouth to ask what she was doing.
Without a second's hesitation, Jacqueline hoisted the heavy basin and hurled the freezing water directly into Yardley's face, drenching him from head to toe!
The shock of the freezing water felt like ice injected straight into his veins.
He frantically wiped the water from his eyes, staring at her in absolute shock, his temper finally flaring. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
