"Those shameless women from the Flynn family are here! They brought a team of lawyers and city officials, demanding I hand Dawn over to them immediately!"
"They're waving paperwork around, claiming I'm not her legal guardian and that they have the right to take her!"
Jacqueline's voice was frantic but hushed. Clearly, she was hiding somewhere to make the call, terrified of blowing Scarlett's cover.
Scarlett's anxiety spiked. Her immediate instinct was to hang up, call Yardley, and curse him out. But she forced herself to remember that she was legally 'dead.' If she suddenly resurrected now, the entire plan would be ruined.
"Mom, stay calm. Let me think!"
After a few agonizing seconds, she made a decision. "Mom, Julian and I can't show our faces yet, but Chatwin Wyatt is still my legal representative! Call him right now and tell him to get over there!"
"I've already secured the critical evidence we need. Julian and I should be able to come out of hiding soon!"
"Listen to me, Mom—do not get into a physical fight with them. I don't want you or Dawn getting hurt. If the absolute worst happens and they force her out of the house, you and Zara go with her!"
"I want to see exactly what game they're trying to play!"
Hearing her daughter's steady instructions, Jacqueline's panic subsided, replaced by fierce resolve. "Okay, I'll call Chatwin right now!"
"Don't worry about us. As long as I have breath in my lungs, I won't let them harm a hair on her head!"
