The sudden, piercing screech shattered the quiet hallway. Scarlett and Elara whipped around in shock.
Sylvia marched toward them in a floral sundress, waving the ultrasound scan like a weapon. Her face was a mask of unhinged, overflowing jealousy.
She shoved the paper right into Elara’s chest. "You wanted a grandchild so badly, right? Look at it! I'm almost two months pregnant! I guarantee you, this one is Julian's!"
Without missing a beat, Sylvia lunged for Scarlett’s wrist, her manicured fingers clawing at the emerald bracelet.
The sheer audacity of the move left both Elara and Scarlett momentarily stunned.
"Sylvia, have you completely lost your mind?!"
"You don't need an OB-GYN, you need a psychiatrist! Even if you were the last woman on earth, my son wouldn't touch you with a ten-foot pole!"
Elara exploded, roughly shoving Sylvia’s hands away.
Ever since Scarlett and Jacqueline Langley had shown her the beauty of letting go of high-society etiquette, Elara had completely abandoned her polished persona. When dealing with a shameless leech like Sylvia, she knew exactly how to go for the jugular.
Pushed off balance, Sylvia stumbled and had to brace herself against the wall. Seeing Elara defend Scarlett so fiercely while treating her like trash fueled the fire of her resentment. She pointed a trembling finger at Scarlett.
"I don't fucking get it, Elara!"
"What is so special about Scarlett? Why do you all worship the ground she walks on like she's a damn goddess?!"
"Did she drug you and your son? Is she prettier than me? Does she have a better background? She's a divorcee with baggage!"
