Kane let out a booming, triumphant laugh over the phone. "That's my girl. We've got a kid together, we're a family. Stick with me, and I promise you'll be the happiest woman in the world. Tell me where you are, I'll send a car to pick you up. Pack your things. We're heading to the border tonight; I've got people waiting for us there."
Sylvia quickly gave him her location.
She had made her choice. She was betting everything. She didn't care what the cost was; as long as it ended in the utter annihilation of Scarlett and Julian, it would be worth it.

Upstairs, Scarlett and Julian followed Yardley into his private office.
The room hadn't changed much. Everything was exactly as it used to be. The only thing that surprised Scarlett was a framed photograph sitting right on his desk—a picture of her and Dawn.
Even when she had been his wife, she had never received such prime real estate on his desk. It was ironic that now, after she had divorced him and married someone else, he had decided to proudly display them front and center.
What was he trying to prove? That he still cared?
She let out a soft scoff of amusement. "A fan in winter, a blanket in summer... Comfort that comes too late is entirely pointless. You should probably put that away. If your current wife sees it, she's going to throw a fit."
