Scarlett’s words were sharp, but they hit Yardley like a bucket of ice water, sending him into a profound, jarring daze.
Yardley stared at her blankly, his chest heaving. Yet, despite his anger, he was forced to admit that everything Scarlett said was the absolute truth. He couldn't find a single word to argue back.
Noticing Scarlett getting increasingly worked up, Julian gently squeezed her hand, signaling her to remain calm.
His tone was perfectly even.
"Scarlett's words might be harsh, but they aren't wrong. She's completely right."
"Yardley, if you can actually absorb what she's saying and start changing your family from yourself, maybe there's still hope for the Flynns."
"If you refuse to listen and keep blindly charging down your own path like you always do, you'll only end up pushing everyone away. Eventually, the Flynn Group you care so much about will be completely destroyed."
"We've said all we came to say. Whether you listen or not is up to you."
Having delivered his piece, Julian motioned for Scarlett to leave with him.
Scarlett was entirely fueled by anger now and had absolutely zero appetite. Without a moment's hesitation, she turned on her heel and walked out.
The two of them left side by side, leaving Yardley alone at a table full of untouched food.
Yardley sat there numbly. After contemplating their words in deep silence for a long time, he finally began to snap out of it.
He didn't know how much time had passed when his phone rang again.
He pulled it out, saw it was Corinne, and answered it.
"Mom."
Corinne’s hysterical wailing immediately assaulted his ear.
"Yardley! What's happening? Why is Sylvia completely out of her mind?!"
"You're at the hospital right now?"
"Yes!" Corinne cried. "Sylvia is acting like a complete lunatic! Where are you? You need to get here right now and explain to me why your sister is like this!"
Yardley took a deep breath.
"Just wait for me. I was eating nearby. I'm heading over now."
He hung up, stood up, asked the waiter to pack up a few dishes, and headed back to the hospital.
Even from a distance, he could hear the violent commotion echoing from Sylvia's room. Corinne was pacing frantically outside the door.
He hurried over, taking long strides. Before he could even call out to his mother, a series of piercing, bloodcurdling shrieks ripped through the door!
Startled, he quickly dumped the takeout bags onto a nearby bench and shoved the hospital door open.
