It was a limited-edition piece she had been waitlisted for at Hermès forever because she didn't have enough purchase history to qualify.
She had firmly believed that, given Yardley's status, the bag he gifted her would naturally be brand-new, sourced straight from a VIP boutique.
To have Julian expose it right in front of her as a used item—and not just any used item, but his own mother's discarded cast-off—was an unbearable humiliation.
Veronica completely snapped. She stomped her foot, practically vibrating with rage. "Julian... I had no idea your mouth was this venomous! You can insult someone without even swearing!"
"You... you..."
Her mind raced frantically for a comeback, but she realized with horror that she had absolutely nothing to use against him.
She pointed a trembling finger at Julian for a long moment before her manic gaze locked onto Mr. Caldwell, the project manager who had escorted her upstairs.
Caldwell was the chief supervisor for the Zenith Tower project and had previously worked for Thorne Industries as one of her father's veteran subordinates.
She had come to Zenith Tower today hoping to leverage Caldwell into giving Thorne Industries priority leasing rights for the top-floor executive suites. Her father, Quentin, had been eagerly circling the Bay City real estate market, wanting to carve out a territory here for her to manage.
So, the moment she got the call, she had set aside all her family drama and rushed over for a site tour.
She never expected to run into Scarlett and Julian at the penthouse, let alone be subjected to their sickening display of affection. She had tried to humiliate Julian, only to end up looking like a complete clown.
Veronica had never been handed a defeat like this before. To be continuously humiliated by Scarlett and Julian was driving her insane.
Furious, she shrieked at the manager. "Caldwell! Do you just let any random trash wander into Zenith Tower now?!"
"Why do people like *them* have the clearance to tour the penthouse?! Don't you vet anyone who comes in?!"
She was practically foaming at the mouth.
Hearing her demands, Caldwell looked like his legs had finally given out. He hunched forward, practically groveling in sheer panic—not toward Veronica, but toward Scarlett and Julian.
"Boss! I am so sorry! I... I shouldn't have brought anyone up here to ruin your inspection!"
"I... I'll have her thrown out immediately!"
The moment the words left Caldwell's mouth, the two security guards flanking him surged forward, grabbing Veronica roughly by both arms.
Veronica's eyes went wide with shock, staring incredulously at Scarlett and Julian. For a moment, the world spun. Her limbs went numb, her brain entirely short-circuiting as she tried to process what was happening.
