Veronica had no choice but to stop, staring after Yardley with an unsatisfied look on her face.
Yardley didn't even give her a passing glance. He followed Franklin into the office, slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
Staring at the closed door, Veronica felt a surge of secret delight. It looked like Franklin might actually be stepping down for good, handing full control of Flynn Group over to his son. If that happened, she would be untouchable across both Thorne Industries and the Flynn empire. The penthouse office at Zenith Tower would be hers for the taking!
Who did Scarlett and Julian think they were? They weren't even in her league!
Veronica had initially been terrified that the two of them were the secret owners of Zenith Tower, but after making some inquiries and repeatedly pressing Mr. Caldwell, she had gotten her answer. He had sworn up and down that the couple had nothing to do with the building's ownership and that his previous slip of the tongue had just been a mistake.
With that fear laid to rest, Veronica's contempt for Scarlett and Julian only deepened.

It didn't take long for Scarlett to hear about Franklin coughing up blood after Veronica's tirade.
She had always been on good terms with Nathan, and her public defense of him the other day had only cemented his loyalty. Remembering how good of a colleague she used to be, Nathan now sent her real-time updates on every piece of drama unfolding at Flynn Group.
Now that she was far removed from that toxic vortex, watching the drama unfold from a distance just made her sigh. Remembering how she had been driven to the brink of insanity, it felt like a lifetime ago. In contrast, her current life felt like a flawless fairy tale.
Julian took the phone from her hand, naturally leaning his head against hers as he skimmed the messages. "The Flynn family is a breeding ground for toxicity," he said softly. "Anyone who steps into their circle gets dragged into the mud. Besides, Veronica was never exactly a saint. But maybe this is for the best—let the monsters tear each other apart. After how they treated you, having a nightmare like her in their lives is nothing short of karma."
He stroked her hair affectionately, his voice dropping to a tender whisper. "I'm just so glad you made it out of that storm."
"A blessed woman doesn't enter a luckless household," he quoted softly. "You've left the tempest behind. From now on, your skies will always be clear."
