Noticing her mother's violent reaction, Scarlett immediately leaned in to look at the screen.
The man in the photo had graying hair, a hunched posture, and looked painfully gaunt and weathered. But beneath the wrinkles and the darkened skin, the faint traces of his old features were still there—features that aligned perfectly with the blurry memories locked away in Scarlett's mind.
Jacqueline's legs gave out, and she collapsed, her phone slipping from her trembling fingers to the floor. Scarlett caught the device just in time, rushing forward to support her mother and guide her to the bedroom sofa.
Looking at the agonizingly complex emotions twisting Jacqueline's face, Scarlett's gut already told her the truth.
Her voice dropped to a low, deadly register. "Mom... is that Sean Bishop?"
Just saying the name made her jaw clench with visceral hatred. Yes, he was her biological father, but all she felt was disgust. When disaster had struck all those years ago, he had taken another woman and fled, abandoning them to shoulder the ruin. Worse, he had callously dragged her brother away. Knowing the sheer hell her brother had endured after being stranded in Country A, that hatred had only festered deep within her bones.
He hadn't shown his face once in all these years.
She had almost entirely forgotten him, assuming he had died in some forgotten corner of the world.
And now, he had suddenly crawled out of the woodwork? And intentionally chosen the exact moment her brother was about to return?
Why now? What exactly did he want?
Julian immediately stepped forward. "Mom, stay here and watch Dawn. I'm going with her to handle this."
By the time Julian hurried out, Scarlett was already charging down the stairs.
She had just been thinking about how long it had been since she felt truly angry, and now this piece of garbage from the past had instantly set her blood on fire. Thinking about how his cowardice had forced her and her mother to weather years of unimaginable storms—thinking about how his actions had destroyed both her childhood and her brother's—made her want to rip him apart.
He picked the perfect time to show up. She had been waiting for years to grab him by the collar and make him pay.
