She had completely shattered his protective delusion. He wasn't stupid—he knew exactly what kind of game Janetta was playing. The realization didn't sit well with him, but considering Janetta had just suffered a massive wave of public humiliation because of his actions, he was willing to let her pull his strings. Blinded by rage, his hand shot up to strike her. Helena didn't even flinch. She simply waited for the impact. But the blow never came, leaving her entirely confused about his next move.

Sebastian was just staring at her. From this angle, the nasty purple bruise forming on the corner of her mouth from his earlier assault was glaringly obvious. The dried blood hadn't even been washed away.
