He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 158

Her rapid-fire questions pinned him to the wall. She held his gaze with absolute transparency, not shrinking back a single inch. A flash of uncertainty flickered across Sebastian's face.

She had completely shattered his protective delusion. He wasn't stupid—he knew exactly what kind of game Janetta was playing. She was weaponizing his guilt, maneuvering him exactly where she wanted him. She was just incredibly elegant in her execution, leaving him absolutely no room to call her out on it.

The realization didn't sit well with him, but considering Janetta had just suffered a massive wave of public humiliation because of his actions, he was willing to let her pull his strings. That didn't mean, however, that Helena had the right to rip the mask off the situation and force him to look at the ugly truth. It was a direct blow to his massive ego.

"Who gave you the audacity to analyze my life, Helena?" Sebastian demanded, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly low octave.

"I'm just stating the facts," she shot back, refusing to back down.

Blinded by rage, his hand shot up to strike her. Helena didn't even flinch. She simply waited for the impact. But the blow never came, leaving her entirely confused about his next move.

Sebastian was just staring at her. From this angle, the nasty purple bruise forming on the corner of her mouth from his earlier assault was glaringly obvious. The dried blood hadn't even been washed away.

Janetta's pregnancy had made her look radiant and soft. Helena looked like a hollowed-out ghost in comparison. Looking at her frail frame, it was terrifyingly obvious that one more hard slap would completely break her.

Sebastian slowly reined in his explosive temper. She was carrying his golden ticket. He had to keep her physically intact until he secured those shares. It was a perfectly cold, logical excuse to justify his hesitation. His hand dropped heavily to his side.
