He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 168

It was a blatant display of mockery.

He was laughing at how effortlessly he had crushed her pathetic attempts at rebellion.

A blinding fury erupted in her chest, and she marched forward, ready to scream at him.

But just as she took a step, Wynn's voice stopped her dead in her tracks.

"Sebastian, what are you looking at?" Wynn asked curiously.

Sebastian offered the boy a faint, patronizing smile that didn't reach his cold eyes.

Keeping his gaze locked maliciously on Helena, he said, "Your sister is home."

That one sentence completely smothered Helena's rage.

Wynn spun his wheelchair around, his face lighting up with absolute joy at the sight of her.

He was severely emaciated, his large, hollow eyes looking impossibly huge on his gaunt, sunken face.

But when he looked at her, he looked as though he had found his salvation.

"Lena, you're back!" he cheered. "Sebastian brought me here yesterday. I was worried sick when you weren't around, but he told me you were out catching up with friends over dinner."

Wynn's sheer innocence knocked the wind right out of her.

She was forced to swallow down every drop of her bubbling fury.

It was all a complete fabrication.

A sick, manipulative lie.

But she couldn't expose the truth while Wynn was sitting right there.

She forced her trembling muscles to relax.

Plastering a fake calm onto her face, she walked over to her brother.

Sebastian didn't say another word, merely leaning against the console table like a silent, predatory spectator.

If Wynn had possessed even a shred of intuition, he would have easily sensed the suffocating hostility crackling between them.

But he was so blinded by his awe for his brother-in-law that he didn't suspect a thing.

"Wynn..." Helena murmured, kneeling beside his chair with poorly concealed anxiety.
