Wynn peeked back up, staring at her with wide, expectant eyes.
He was eagerly waiting for her response.
"The baby was perfectly fine," Helena choked out, completely paralyzed by the man holding her hostage.
Sebastian flashed a breathtakingly warm smile. Suddenly, he widened his eyes in apparent wonder. "Wait... is the baby kicking?"
He sounded like a genuine, ecstatic father-to-be.
For a dizzying second, Helena couldn't tell if the awe in his voice was an incredibly twisted performance or a fleeting moment of truth.
Biting her lip, she gave a mechanical nod. "Mhm."
He leaned down toward her bump, his voice practically oozing affection. "You better behave in there. Don't go giving your mommy a hard time, or you'll have to answer to me."
It was a flawless display of sickeningly sweet devotion.
Wynn watched the entire scene, completely letting his guard down, utterly convinced of their happiness.
Helena didn't dare move a muscle. Sebastian held all the cards, and she was entirely at his mercy.
The tension in the air was unbearably thick, suffocating her with every passing second.
Since Wynn was still in critical recovery, his energy didn't last long. Soon, exhaustion began weighing heavily on his gaunt face.
Seeing this, Sebastian kindly instructed the butler to wheel Wynn upstairs to his newly prepared suite to rest.
The entire time, he kept an iron grip on Helena's hand, ensuring she couldn't step out of line.
She bit her tongue, refusing to blow up in front of the staff.
But the moment he dragged her into the master bedroom and closed the door, her fury finally exploded.
"Sebastian, what the hell are you trying to do?" she hissed.
Remembering she was pregnant, she forced herself to temper her explosive rage, unwilling to distress the baby.
Her voice shook violently as she desperately fought to regain control over her breathing.
Taking a deep breath, she glared at him with bloodshot eyes. "Wynn isn't stable! The doctors explicitly ordered him to stay in the ICU. Bringing him here is basically a death sentence, and you know it."
She stood her ground, refusing to back down an inch.
In the past, Wynn had given everything to protect her.
Now, it was her turn to be his shield.
"If you want to punish me, then do it to me, Sebastian! You didn't have to drag Wynn into this!" she gasped, her chest heaving heavily.
The intense confrontation drained what little energy she had left.
"You are the most vile, disgusting human being I have ever met," she spat.
"What did you just say?" he asked with maddening nonchalance, though his eyes darkened dangerously. "Say it again."
He took a slow, deliberate step toward her.
Helena hit the edge of the bed, completely cornered.
Tilting her chin up, she met his stare with unflinching defiance. "I said, you are the most disgusting, filthy, soulless bastard I've ever known!"
But even as she said it, her body tensed in preparation for his retaliation.
The air between them had grown dangerously thin.
Instinct took over, and she tried to bolt for the door.
She needed to get out of this room immediately.
But Sebastian shot out a hand, snatching her wrist before she could take two steps.
"Let go!" she shrieked, struggling frantically to rip herself away from him.
She fought like a wild animal cornered in a trap.
Sebastian's face contorted into an expression of pure, monstrous fury.
