He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 202

"Of course not," he denied softly. "That's why I had Carter investigate. This had nothing to do with you. Your phone was hacked, and her number was implanted to frame you."

His simple explanation cleared her name completely. Helena would be lying if she said she wasn't surprised. But after enduring so much torment over the years, her immediate instinct was to suspect he was plotting something.

She stared at him calmly, choosing her words carefully.

Sebastian's hand lingered on her cheek, his tone growing serious. "Helena, let's stop fighting. Just focus on having this baby safely."

There was no trace of a joke in his eyes.

Helena met his gaze without blinking. "Once the baby is born, can I leave?"

Sebastian didn't answer right away.

Helena didn't mind the silence. "Don't worry. For Wynn's sake, I will make sure this baby is delivered safely. But you better not go back on your word, because if you do, I don't know what I'm capable of."

She meant every word. A cornered animal will always fight back. Just because she had a gentle temperament didn't mean she would lie down and take it when pushed past her breaking point. If he pushed her too far, she would burn everything to the ground with her.

The threat was thinly veiled, yet Sebastian remained utterly unfazed.

"Do you really want to leave me that badly?" he asked quietly.

"Yes," she answered without a second of hesitation.

She waited for his temper to flare, but surprisingly, it didn't.

"This is meaningless, Sebastian. I don't want to talk about it," she replied coldly, shutting him down completely.

This time, it was Sebastian's turn to fall silent. He stared at her intently. The submissive little wife he remembered was gone. The old Helena would have bent over backward to please him; she never fought back. If he had said these words to her back then, she would have wept tears of joy.

Now, she just looked at him with ice in her veins.

Was she slipping out of his control?

As the thought crossed his mind, the last remnants of his patience began to evaporate. The familiar, predatory anger began to claw its way up his throat, making him want to crush her defiance entirely.

But just as the tension reached its breaking point, Helena laughed.
