Her tone was gentle, yet it carried an authority that left no room for debate.
The stylist spun around, staring at Helena in absolute shock. Even Sebastian stopped talking and frowned, his gaze locking onto her.
Carter looked visibly stunned. In all the time he had known her, Helena had always been a deeply agreeable woman who never made things difficult for the staff. And over something as trivial as makeup?
"What... what exactly don't you like?" the stylist finally stammered. "We're completely out of time."
"I don't like any of it," Helena stated bluntly.
The stylist was rendered speechless.
"I despise this peach-toned eyeshadow, I hate these ridiculous bouncy curls, and this dress is far too pretentious for my taste. Furthermore, I am pregnant, and you pulled stilettos for me. Are you deliberately trying to cause an accident?" Helena picked apart every detail with surgical precision, her expression entirely placid.
The stylist's face drained of color before flushing with anger. She immediately turned to Sebastian. "Mr. Hayes... the gala starts at 7:30 PM, and it's already 6:46 PM. If I have to wipe everything and start from scratch, you will definitely miss the event."
She was Janetta's loyal stylist, so naturally, she knew exactly where Sebastian's true affections lay. She was absolutely certain Sebastian would put Helena in her place. Her tone was a thinly veiled complaint.
The entire look had been an intentional slight, a calculated move to transform Helena into a carbon copy of Janetta. It was a vicious reminder to Sebastian—and to all of Riverton—that Helena Wallace was nothing more than a pathetic shadow. That was why the stylist felt so emboldened.
Hearing the complaint, Sebastian glanced down at his watch. They were indeed out of time. As the guest of honor, he couldn't afford to be late. High-ranking officials had flown in from the Capital just for this event; making them wait was out of the question.
His frown deepened.
He stood up and began walking slowly toward Helena.
