He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 227

"Besides, you made such a massive public scene just to force her to compromise. Her reaching out constantly proves she has," Helena said evenly. "Just give her an out, and everything goes back to your control."

There was no need for this prolonged torture.

"Helena, what I desire is absolute control, not a rekindled romance," Sebastian stated, his voice direct and chillingly cruel.

Helena fell silent. She didn't push it. She understood exactly what he meant by 'absolute control'—it was a deeply rooted dominance that terrified her to her core.

Sebastian suddenly chuckled, the sound making her skin crawl.

"Would you be happy if I answered it?" he asked, seamlessly capturing her hand again. With a smooth twist, he locked their fingers together.

Helena stared down at their joined hands and asked herself that question. Was she happy?

No.

Whether it was because Janetta had ruined their marriage, or because Janetta was his legendary 'First Love' making Helena the ultimate loser, her pride wouldn't allow her to feel any joy in this sick game.

She kept her walls up. "I have nothing to be unhappy about," she replied, her tone deliberately bland.

The vibrating on the dashboard finally ceased. He never picked up, nor did he argue with her answer.

She couldn't articulate the twisted knot in her chest. Every time she fell into absolute despair, he would throw her a lifeline of hope. Yet, the man pulling her out of the abyss was the exact same man who had pushed her into it.

Her fingers curled inward in silent resistance, but he didn't care. He kept their hands firmly clasped.

The realization sent her into a blind panic. The press videos felt like jagged needles plunging directly into her heart. She let out a piercing scream.

Suddenly, a violent contraction ripped through her six-month pregnant belly. The pain was excruciating. Before she could even process it, blood began to gush out.

Her assistant was paralyzed with fear. "Ms. Ramirez! Hurry, get a doctor!"

Chaos erupted. The nurses rushed Janetta into the emergency room as the doctors sprinted inside.

The heavy doors slammed shut, leaving the terrified assistant pacing in the hallway. She wanted to call Sebastian, but she knew he wouldn't pick up.

Forty agonizing minutes later, the emergency room doors finally opened.
