He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 382

"When you get out of here, don't immediately land yourself back in trouble. I am entirely out of patience, Helena."

"If you ruin things for yourself again, I will make good on my threats. Understand?"

Sebastian issued the low warning.

He didn't waste another breath on her, simply turning to the nurses and ordering them to keep a close eye on her.

Then, he turned and strode out the door.

Carter had been by his side for years, and Sebastian knew him better than anyone.

Unless it was an absolute emergency, Carter would never interrupt him like that.

With that grim thought in mind, Sebastian's expression darkened.

He stepped out into the hall where Carter was waiting.

The moment Carter saw him, he spoke up immediately.

"Mr. Hayes, we have a crisis. The baby's condition suddenly crashed. All her vitals are plummeting."

Carter delivered the news bluntly.

It was a horrific twist that no one had anticipated.

Even the doctors were completely blindsided.

The color drained from Sebastian's face.

"Why the sudden crash?" he demanded.

"They aren't entirely sure. The doctor needs you there immediately," Carter said hurriedly.

Without a second of hesitation, Sebastian broke into a run toward the NICU.

Back in the room, Helena watched him leave in silence.

But the crushing weight of anxiety in her chest was making it physically hard to breathe.

She couldn't explain it.

Perhaps it was a mother's intuition.

But her gut screamed that something was terribly wrong with her baby.

The more she thought about it, the more frantic she became.

She tried to get out of bed, but the nurses immediately stepped in to stop her.

She was trapped.

"Tell me, did something happen to my daughter?" she pleaded with the nurse, her voice desperate.

She was grasping at straws, desperate for any shred of information.

The nurse tried to soothe her patiently. "Mrs. Hayes, that's over in the NICU. We really don't have any updates. But no news is good news, right? It means she's safe."

The comforting words did absolutely nothing to ease Helena's mounting terror.

Her wound was still searing with pain.

But it was an agony she could endure.

Gritting her teeth against the pain, she began the descent toward the NICU.

Her pace grew faster with every step.

Meanwhile—

Sebastian had already arrived at the NICU.

The doctor was visibly tense.

The moment he saw Sebastian, he hurried out into the hall.

"What the hell happened?" Sebastian demanded, his face like thunder.

The doctor didn't sugarcoat it. "We don't know. Her condition was completely stable, and then just moments ago, she took a drastic turn for the worse. We are still running diagnostics to find the cause. But she is suffering from a massive systemic infection, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly what triggered the collapse."

It was the doctor's way of saying that the absolute worst could happen at any second.

Sebastian stood there, his jaw clenched. "Did anyone enter the NICU before this happened?"

"Only our nursing staff. We are already pulling the security footage. They were just doing routine checks." The doctor had already covered all his bases.

It seemed this catastrophe truly was a random, unpredictable nightmare.

It had caught everyone completely off guard.
