He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 178

Heath was a cunning man. The moment he heard Ottilie's words, he knew something was off.

Pulling Shawn aside, he whispered, "Is your sister's brain fried? She hasn't mentioned a single thing about what just happened."

"She's been a little unstable ever since she got out of St. Dymphna's," Shawn replied nervously. "Last time... it was like this too. She completely blacked out the incident."

He didn't dare elaborate on what that "last time" entailed.

A malicious smirk crept onto Heath's lips. "Your sister really is a treasure. I didn't know she came with a factory reset feature. What a pity."

It was a pity he hadn't tied her up first that night.

He could have taken out every ounce of his pent-up rage and bitterness on her body.

Once it was over, she would have forgotten the whole thing, leaving him with zero fear of Yorath's retaliation.

Rubbing his hands together, Heath was already brainstorming his second attempt to destroy her.

"You must be joking, Ms. Sewell. Three years ago, you set the fire that nearly burned me to death and shattered both my legs. If anyone is pressing charges, it's me. You have absolutely no ground to stand on."

Realizing the conversation was going nowhere, Ottilie dropped it.

She turned her attention to Fabian. "Fabian, did you keep the footage we shot out in the wilderness safe?"

"I kept it safe," Fabian rasped, looking incredibly frail.

"How exactly did we get separated?" Ottilie pressed.

That single question caused everyone in the room to snap their eyes toward him.

Fabian coughed and answered, "I was poisoned from eating the lilies. I must have hallucinated. Next thing I know, someone found me. I have no memory of the rest."

Ottilie nodded.

That matched her own experience almost perfectly.

Could she have suffered lily poisoning too?

Perhaps Jevon was right—she really did need a thorough medical checkup.

Wasting no time, Ottilie immediately had blood drawn at the hospital lab for a full panel.

After leaving the hospital, she headed to Yves's apartment.

"My mistake. I misunderstood your intentions. You finally made it here, so please don't rush off. Let me cook for you. Have a meal before you go."

Not wanting to be impolite, Ottilie stayed and had dinner with Yves.

When it was time to leave, Yves walked her to the front gates of his complex.

There, parked by the curb, was Yorath's car.

Soren stepped out of the driver's seat. "Ms. Sewell, Mr. Fordham is here to pick you up."

Ottilie said her goodbyes to Yves and climbed into the backseat.

The AC was blasting inside. The moment the door shut, Ottilie shivered from the chill.

She turned to look at Yorath. His legs were elegantly crossed, and he was completely engrossed in a document in his hands.

Even in profile, he was as handsomely chiseled as a masterpiece sculpture.

However, his flawless perfection created an overwhelming sense of distance, as if a thick layer of fog separated them.

Even though she could smell his familiar cologne, there was no way to breach the gap.
