The two men quickly walked up to greet her.
Nyssa offered a gentle smile. "I came to see Mrs. Fordham, but her room was too crowded, so I just left my flowers by the door."
Jevon frowned. "You spent days taking care of her, and now that she's better, you didn't even walk in to take credit? Are you trying to be a saint?"
"I love Yorath without expecting anything in return," Nyssa said softly. "It doesn't matter if Mrs. Fordham knows I came or not. The thought is what counts."
Elian shook his head. "Why are you so foolish? Come on, let's go see her together."
Nyssa hesitated. "Is that appropriate? There are a lot of wealthy heiresses inside. Given my background..."
"Who cares?" Jevon scoffed. "With us backing you up, nobody would dare give you an attitude."
Sitting in the car, Ottilie watched as Nyssa, flanked protectively by Elian on one side and Jevon on the other, walked back into the inpatient building.
Ottilie pushed the door open and stepped out of the vehicle.
The chauffeur glanced at her but didn't dare ask where she was going.
Ottilie hailed a cab and headed straight to Yves Walden's place.
On the way, she gave Lachlan a call.
"Ottilie, how was it surviving out there in the mountains?"
"It was okay," she replied.
"I thought you were dead."
"I don't die that easily."
With that brief back-and-forth, the tension lifted.
"Did you tell Yorath about our contract?" Lachlan asked. "He practically beat me to a pulp."
"I haven't told him yet." Ottilie had already heard a rough account of the beating from Jevon.
"When are you going to drop the bomb? Let me know in advance so I can stock up on painkillers."
Lachlan's biggest regret in life was that he hadn't taken up kickboxing or martial arts when he was a kid.
She had to figure out exactly how the two of them got separated.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Ottilie pushed open the door to Fabian's room.
She instantly spotted Shawn and Heath Schmidt inside.
Fabian was lying in the hospital bed, completely surrounded by a group of men glaring at him with intense, hostile eyes. The atmosphere was so tense it felt like a brawl was about to break out.
When Ottilie opened the door, everyone turned to look at her.
Shawn, in particular, instinctively averted his gaze the moment he saw her.
Heath had bandages wrapped around his head. His face was devoid of color, making his sharp, delicate features look like a vampire's.
"You didn't call the cops, so you came here to demand a payout in person? Do you really think you're worth anything? Without evidence, don't expect a single dime out of me."
Ottilie instantly realized that whatever had happened during her memory blackout involved Heath. She stepped into the room and shut the door behind her.
"I was actually going to call the cops. But for the sake of my own brother, I figured we could talk. I want to know who the mastermind was behind the plot to frame me three years ago. As long as you agree to take my side, I won't press charges against you."
