He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 205

But she had been with him too long and knew too many of his secrets, yet he couldn't just kill her.

Then the incident with Nyssa Tarrant presented the perfect excuse, so he shoved her into the psychiatric facility to silence her.

Why he had suddenly developed this bizarre, desperate attachment to her now, Lachlan had no idea.

But snatching up the woman Yorath had gone to such desperate lengths to pull back into the light?

That felt incredible.

"I offended Mr. Fordham for your sake," Lachlan remarked. "You might be looking at him through rose-tinted glasses, oblivious to what kind of man he truly is. Let me break it down for you."

"On a lazy day, he can put his opponent behind bars. On a normal day, he'll lock up his opponent and their lawyer. And when he's really on his game, he can even put the judge away."

"I'm under an immense amount of stress right now. I feel like a prison sentence is looming over my head. You can't just abandon me after everything I've risked for you."

Ottilie absorbed his words.

Yorath was a terrifyingly renowned attorney; his peers practically wept when they saw him on the opposing bench.

He was an undefeated titan with scarcely a loss to his name.

He could save anyone in the world, except her.

"As long as you can guarantee my career in the industry, Mr. Schmidt, I naturally won't disappoint you."

After rotting away in St. Dymphna's, desperately waiting for a savior who never came, she had stopped expecting rescue.

She was her own savior now.

Everyone who had framed her, hurt her—including Yorath—was going to pay.

Justina climbed back into the car, dripping with rainwater.

"Are we leaving?"

She asked Lachlan.

Before he could reply, a black Rolls-Royce Cullinan glided smoothly toward the gates.

Ottilie didn't even need to check the license plate to know it was Yorath's car.

"Wait a moment. I'm going to speak with him," she said.

She was still determined to secure the wilderness survival project.

"I'll come with you," Lachlan offered.

He stepped out first to open an umbrella for her.

But the howling wind instantly threatened to snap it.

"Don't trouble yourself. I can handle this alone," she told him.

She walked to the curb, waiting as the Cullinan slowed for the gates, and gently tapped on the driver's window.

The massive vehicle eased to a halt.

Someone inside gave an order.

The guard shot Ottilie a look, bowed a full ninety degrees in acknowledgment, and then the car disappeared into the estate.

Several guards immediately marched up to her, their expressions hard.

"Ms. Sewell, you have been permanently blacklisted. You are barred from approaching The Empyrean. If you return, we are authorized to use high-pressure hoses to remove you. Please leave immediately."

Ottilie might not have possessed high social standing, but she had never been subjected to such naked humiliation.

Inside his car, Lachlan took in the entire scene.

"Isn't this a bit too cruel?" Justina murmured.

Lighting a cigarette, Lachlan exhaled a plume of smoke and drawled, "Without bitter medicine, how will she ever give up hope?"

"Why is everyone so obsessed with crushing her hope?"

"You haven't seen the way she loves him," Lachlan replied. "If you had, you'd understand."

"But from what I can see, she doesn't love Mr. Fordham at all."

Lachlan whipped his head around. "What did you just say?"

"Well, isn't it true?"

His dark eyes widened in sudden, gleaming realization, and he threw his head back, barking out a laugh.
