He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 236

Ottilie's words were like a bucket of ice water dumped over Yorath's head, freezing him to the core.

His body gave a microscopic tremor, his teeth clenching as if locked by frost.

Staring at this woman who was so fiercely determined to leave with someone else, a dark, venomous part of him wished she were dead.

His eyes were like shards of ice, yet a terrifying fire raged in his chest.

A familiar heat coiled in his gut.

He still wanted her.

Yorath set his cup down, ruthlessly burying the turbulent storm inside him.

By the time he looked back at Ottilie, his facade of the composed, aloof gentleman was perfectly restored.

"Fine. I'll have the contract drafted. Once it's ready, we'll invite Mr. Walden back to co-sign. Surely, you don't intend to let Ottilie shoulder this immense burden all by herself, do you?"

"I will absolutely be here," Yves promised.

"Good. Your profound devotion is truly touching. I look forward to seeing what you both can do. Safe travels, Mr. Walden. I won't see you out."

As Yves stood, Ottilie rose beside him.

"Ottilie can walk him out," Yorath commanded. "Come straight back to hash out the contract details. Don't keep me waiting."

Ottilie knew he was just paranoid she might run off with Yves.

Even if she wanted to, there was nowhere to run.

She gave a curt nod and escorted Yves out.

Just as the heavy study door was about to click shut, a deafening crash erupted from inside.

Ottilie jumped, but she didn't look back. She swiftly pulled the door shut, cutting off the noise.

As they walked downstairs, everyone in the living room stared at them.

Ottilie walked Yves to the front door. "Wait for my call."

Their hands hadn't parted since she grabbed his in the study.

"I will," Yves said softly. "Don't try to carry everything on your own. Let me share the burden."

"I don't know about that. I think you're great," Nyssa said softly, reaching out to adjust his tie. "If you were willing to lower your standards just a bit, any woman would be dying to marry you."

Jevon was about to throw back a flirtatious remark when he felt a stare burning into him from above.

He glanced up and saw Ottilie watching them from the landing.

He smoothly pulled his tie out of Nyssa's hands, adjusting it haphazardly himself, and barked at Ottilie, "My tie was crooked."

Ottilie didn't say a word.

She had only paused because she heard Elian's voice coming from the study, and she was in no rush to go inside.

Being stared down by Ottilie made Jevon awkwardly stamp his foot. "What are you looking at me for? Aren't you supposed to be with Yorath?"

He hastily busied himself with fixing his suit.

His tie really was crooked now.

By the time he looked up again, Ottilie was gone.
