The heavy silence stretched out.
Yorath's rationality slowly filtered back into his body, his mind re-syncing with reality.
He remembered the stabbing and realized just how much danger she might be in right now.
"My phone."
Jevon handed it over.
He immediately dialed Yvonne's number.
It rang exactly once before it was picked up.
"Mr. Yorath, Ms. Sewell is with me."
Yorath let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding.
He had given standing orders long ago: if anything ever happened to him, Yvonne was to take Ottilie and smuggle her out of the country.
"I'm sending Jevon to pick you up."
He hung up and pulled up the GPS log from Ottilie's tracker.
She had gone to Yves's apartment first.
Yorath placed the phone face-down on the bed. His expression was just as numb as the hollow ache in his chest.
In her most desperate, dangerous moment, her first thought had been Yves.
She loved Yves!
By the time he opened his eyes again, they were entirely devoid of warmth.
He called Jevon closer and murmured a few low instructions.
When he finished, Jevon looked at him in disbelief.
"Isn't that going too far?"
Yorath didn't answer.
Jevon left the room and bumped into Soren in the hallway.
"Mr. Fordham asked me to assist you," Soren stated.
Jevon pulled out a cigarette and casually lit it.
"What is so great about Ottilie anyway? Why is he so obsessed with her? What's wrong with Nyssa?"
Soren opened the back door of the car and respectfully replied, "Mr. Crawford, it is Ms. Sewell. That's all that matters."
Jevon took one drag, tossed the cigarette on the ground, crushed it under his heel, and got in the car.
He didn't say another word about her.
Late into the night.
Ottilie was deep in sleep when a knock on the door jolted her awake.
And Yves had a bright future ahead of him. She absolutely refused to destroy it.
"I was joking," she said quietly.
"As am I," Soren replied, handing her a document. "Here is a contract. Please review it, Ms. Sewell. You can discuss the details with him personally when you arrive."
She took it but didn't read it right away.
Only when she was seated in the back of the car did she flip it open.
After reading the contents, she sat in dead silence for the rest of the ride.
When they arrived at the hospital and she stepped out of the car, Jevon looked back at her.
"Don't push your luck and get yourself killed."
She didn't respond, simply trailing behind them until they reached the VIP suite.
Everyone stopped at the door. Ottilie walked in alone.
The suite was impeccably clean, free from the overwhelming stench of antiseptic.
A massive bouquet of fresh red roses sat on the coffee table in the sitting room.
She walked through to the inner ward.
Yorath was leaning back against the pillows. He had clearly just been cleaned up; his hair was fresh, his features sharp, and a faint, elegant scent lingered in the air.
