He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 247

"I heard you yelling the loudest just now," Yara retorted sharply. "How can I trust you to take care of the patient?"

Elian walked in at the perfect moment. "I'll handle his care."

Marcella let out a breath of relief when she saw him.

"Elian, perfect timing. The nurses here are far too impolite."

Elian lowered his voice. "Mrs. Fordham, please bear with it. She's the best head nurse we have, and even I don't dare get on her bad side. For Yorath's sake, we need to tolerate her."

Marcella was genuinely furious, but she genuinely loved her son, too.

Hearing that, she realized she had been in the wrong.

She bit her lip and stayed silent for a few seconds. "I shouldn't have been arguing in here. From this moment on, I won't say another word."

She signaled Nyssa with her eyes, and the two of them retreated to the outer sitting room.

Jevon let out a massive sigh of relief. He leaned close to Yara and whispered, "You're a lifesaver. But those two outside never keep their promises. They're quiet now, but who knows when they'll start yelling again. For the patient's sake, please kick them out."

Yara had seen firsthand that his own mother hadn't seemed to care that Yorath was hovering near death.

She certainly wasn't going to leave the patient in the care of these relatives.

She walked out to the sitting area and looked at Marcella. "Please step outside with me. I have a few post-op instructions to go over with you."

Marcella had already been reprimanded once. Someone of her status couldn't be caught throwing a tantrum at a young nurse in a hospital.

Besides, she was deeply concerned about her son's recovery.

So, she dutifully followed Yara out into the hallway and didn't come back.

"That little nurse is terrifyingly good," Jevon muttered. "You better treat her well. Don't let her get poached."

"You have no idea," Elian replied. "She's even more hardcore in the OR. There's heavy medical equipment that usually requires a man to move—she pushes it around like it's nothing. She can lift patients by herself... You think I'd ever let someone like her go?"

Jevon caught the subtext instantly. The hospital was working the poor girl to the bone like a draft horse.

Elian pulled back the blanket to change Yorath's shirt. His fingers had barely brushed the top button when Yorath opened his eyes.

"Yorath, you're awake."

Elian pulled his hands back. "Can you change your own clothes?"

If it were anyone but Yorath, Elian absolutely refused to undress another man.

Even his own father didn't get that kind of service.

"I'm fine." Yorath tried to push himself up, but his body was too weak.

The wound burned with a white-hot agony.

He barely lifted himself an inch before collapsing back against the pillows.

The massive blood loss hit him with a wave of severe vertigo; the ceiling spun wildly above him.

"Where is she?" he rasped.

The question was met with dead silence from both Jevon and Elian.

They didn't know how to answer.

Yorath had almost died, and Ottilie had simply run away.

She hadn't even called to check if he was alive.

Her absolute ruthlessness made it impossible for either of them to lie to his face.

They couldn't bring themselves to tell him that she loved him.
