When they avoided talking about love, they could maintain a facade of peace.
But the moment emotions were brought up, they drove the sharpest knives straight into each other's hearts.
Neither would stop until the other was covered in bleeding wounds.
Yorath was a man of extreme rationality.
And after her years at St. Dymphna's Psychiatric Facility, Ottilie had long lost her innocent, carefree, and unfiltered nature.
She quickly regained her composure.
The two sat in heavy silence for a long while.
"If the people who framed me back then were your enemies," Ottilie finally said, "then what role is Nyssa Tarrant playing in all this? I refuse to believe she's innocent."
"Currently, there is no evidence proving she had anything to do with it," Yorath replied. "So, for now, she has to stay at the company until the mastermind backing her finally shows themselves."
Ottilie understood. It wasn't that Yorath hadn't suspected Nyssa.
But they lived in a society governed by law—what good was suspicion without proof?
Especially with a powerful backer hiding in the shadows.
If that backer refused to surface, taking Nyssa out would only alert the enemy.
Ottilie's mind worked fast, weighing the pros and cons in a matter of seconds.
"You just said that as a married couple, we share the same interests. I agree with that. From this moment on, we cooperate. We start investigating from three years ago. You do it for your family, and I do it for revenge."
"I do it for my family," Yorath emphasized, "but also for you."
Ottilie only processed the first half of his sentence, already planning to divorce him the second her revenge was complete.
It was the only obsession keeping her alive.
As for whether Yorath would send her to prison after the divorce, she couldn't care less.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Yorath watched her beautiful eyes shift, her gaze unfocused, clearly not paying attention to him.
A wave of indescribable bitterness washed over him.
Three years ago, when had Ottilie ever dismissed him like this?
Her gaze finally refocused on him. "What did you say?"
Of course, the only reason she had entered the entertainment industry in the first place was because her academic scores hadn't been ideal.
So, she had taken the art exams and gotten into the National Academy of Dramatic Arts.
"Are you discussing this with me, or asking for my permission?"
Yorath's tone was dead serious.
"Is there a difference?"
"If you're discussing it with me, my answer is no."
Then she would have to beg him.
"I thought we were pointing our guns at the same enemy," Ottilie stressed, reminding him of their partnership.
"I absolutely will not allow what happened three years ago to happen again," Yorath stated coldly.
"I'm not the same person I was three years ago either," Ottilie fired back. "I insist, and your objection means nothing. I agreed to marry you, but I still have my human rights."
Elevating the conversation to the level of human rights made the air in the room dangerously explosive.
