Realizing her tone was overly aggressive, Ottilie immediately dialed back her emotions.
She reached out, picked up a Sumo Citrus Orange from the side table, and slowly began peeling it in her hands.
Unable to continue the conversation, the two of them lapsed into silence.
Yorath watched her fair, delicate fingers strip the orange peel away, revealing the beautiful fruit inside.
Ottilie pulled off a small wedge and popped it into her mouth.
July wasn't exactly citrus season, but this orange was incredibly sweet, completely pulp-free, and tasted just as good as a winter harvest.
It even had an imported sticker on it.
*When I leave the hospital, I'll bring some over to Mr. Walden,* she thought.
She still hadn't figured out exactly what she was going to say to Yves.
"Could I have a few of these oranges?"
"Take as many as you like. I'll have someone buy more."
"These will be enough." She found a bag, carefully selected eight of the most perfectly shaped ones, and packed them up.
"You're leaving?" Yorath noticed her movements.
"Yes. I promised you I'd break things off with Mr. Walden, so I need to go give him an explanation. I can't just leave him hanging and let him waste his youth."
Yorath suddenly felt like those oranges were massive stumbling blocks in his own love story.
He picked up his phone and fired off a text to Jevon Crawford.
*[Who bought the Sumo Citrus? Dock their bonus for the month.]*
Ottilie had just finished bagging the fruit and was about to leave when there was a knock at the door.
The hospital room door clicked open.
Nyssa Tarrant walked in, followed by Kendrick Walden, carrying a mountain of nutritional supplements and a massive fruit basket.
Seeing Ottilie standing by the bed with a pathetic little bag of oranges, a flash of disdain crossed Nyssa's eyes.
When Yorath was unconscious, Ottilie was nowhere to be found.
Now that he was awake, she suddenly showed up with a few measly oranges!
*What impeccable timing.*
"I personally made this healing broth for you. It's great for your recovery. Having a little will help your body heal and improve your sleep."
"I just ate, so I won't have any right now," Yorath replied. "But I do have something to tell you. Your brother has been persistently inviting Ottilie to play the second female lead in his new movie. I've given my approval."
Ottilie was genuinely surprised.
Just moments ago, Yorath's attitude practically required her to beg him on her knees.
And begging Yorath was always a complicated game.
He would have undoubtedly extracted some heavy physical benefits from her in return.
Why the sudden change of heart?
Nyssa froze, failing to process the information for a second. "Huh?"
"Ms. Tarrant has been repeatedly inviting me, wanting to bury the hatchet and show the audience our deep sisterly bond," Ottilie chimed in. "I agreed. Aren't you happy?"
"No, I'm thrilled. I'm just a bit surprised. How could Yorath bear to let you come out and work with me? It's going to be very exhausting."
"I suppose this is just the difference between a man before and after marriage," Yorath said smoothly. "After marriage, you naturally have to consider your partner's feelings."
"What do you mean, before and after marriage?" Nyssa stood up abruptly, a look of uncontainable horror flashing in her eyes as she stared at Ottilie.
